General Visa Categories for Thailand

Thailand categorizes international travelers into three primary groups. It is your absolute responsibility to check which tier your passport falls under:

  • Visa Exemption Scheme: Passport holders from over 90 countries and territories can enter Thailand for tourism or short-term business meetings without a visa. Stays are typically permitted for up to 60 days.
  • Visa on Arrival (VoA): Citizens of select countries can apply for a short-term 15-day visa directly at designated international airport checkpoints upon landing. This requires a processing fee paid in cash (Thai Baht).
  • Pre-Arranged E-Visa: Travelers holding passports from countries not covered by exemption or VoA agreements must apply for and secure an electronic visa (e-Visa) before booking flights.

Mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

Every single international delegate – regardless of whether they enter visa-free, with a Visa on Arrival, or with a pre-arranged e-Visa – must complete a Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival. The paper immigration forms historically handed out on flights (the old TM6 cards) have been permanently discontinued. Failing to submit your TDAC online will lead to significant processing delays or denied boarding at your airport of departure.

  • Filing Timeline: You must file the TDAC online exactly 1 to 3 days (within 72 hours) prior to your arrival date in Thailand. Early submissions are not accepted by the official system.
  • Official Website: Submissions must be done via the official Thailand Digital Arrival Card Portal.
  • Cost: Filing the TDAC is completely free of charge. Please protect yourself from third-party agency scams that attempt to charge fees for this process.
  • Required Info: You will need to provide your personal passport details, your inbound flight number, and the exact address of your hotel/accommodation in Bangkok.
  • The Border Process: Upon successful online completion, you will be issued a TDAC QR code. You must download and take a screenshot of this QR code on your mobile device (or print a physical copy) to present to airline personnel at check-in and to border agents at Thai immigration.

Mandatory Entry Requirements Checklist

Regardless of your visa category, all international delegates must comply with the following border rules:

  • Passport Validity: Your passport must possess a minimum validity of six (6) months from your exact date of entry into Thailand.
  • Blank Pages: Your passport must have at least one or two completely blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
  • Onward Travel: You must hold proof of a confirmed return or onward international flight ticket out of Thailand within your legally permitted stay window.
